CUMBRIA INDUSTRIAL HISTORY SOCIETY
Spring
Conference - Saturday 19th April 2008 at the
University of
Cumbria Ambleside Campus
INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE LAKE COUNTIES 40 YEARS ON
The recent publication of The Archaeology of NW England a research framework presents an ideal opportunity to look at progress in our particular area of interest, nearly 40 years since the publication of The Industrial Archaeology of the Lake Counties by Mike Davies-Shiel and John Marshall, two founder members of this society. What have we learned since then? What gaps remain? What contribution can the CIHS and its members make?
The conference will follow a different format from usual, in that most of the day will be given over to a series of short talks from a variety of speakers, each representing part of the industrial archaeology scene. Each speaker has been asked to talk about how they (or their organisation) became involved with the subject, and give us one or two examples of their work. The result should be a fascinating and rewarding day.
